The patient sits behind a dome or a box (depending
upon if the test is manual or automated).
The automated test requires the patient follow a red
light and then press the button when they observe a
green light flash. This test runs approximately 6 –
10 minutes per eye.
The manual test requires the patient stare at a
central point while a small light of varying size
and intensity is brought from outside of the
patient’s vision to a point where they can see. As
soon as the light is seen the patient responds by
tapping a pen on the table while the technician
plots this shape on a map. This test takes approx.
15 – 25 minutes per eye.
Patients complain of eye strain and eye fatigue
during this test. Occasionally patients complain of
mild back pain from sitting upright for several
minutes.
